The Isle of Middleworld Cover, Synopsis, Free Chapters
Hey!
In my last email, there was talk of the upcoming launch of The Chronicles of Gordon’s Feast, the cover reveal, plot synopsis and free chapters from the first volume, The Isle of Middleworld. Well here they are!
The young Dr. Mandy Mirabelle is poised to inherit her family’s ancestral mental institution in France when a debilitating phobia of its eerie old wing puts her birthright at risk. Something wicked befell her there seven years ago, and the trauma inflicted her with amnesia. Only her boyfriend Gordon knows what happened, but he’s a psychotic inpatient at the hospital now, and he’s lost all contact with reality.
Knowing that Gordon holds the key to the mystery, family friend and quack inventor Edward G. Perniferous (along with his alpha-geek assistant, Handly Hannagan) build a complex machine capable of transporting them into Gordon’s deep unconscious mind. There they discover a fascinating dreamworld, with a crumbling island kingdom on the brink of a dragon attack.
Gordon is the realm’s dispirited ruler, and he’s convinced that Mandy and his foggy past are only figments of his imagination. Little does he know that a perilous adventure awaits him, and that soon he’ll have to traverse his worst terrors in order to save Mandy and escape from the dream.
In the waking world, Mandy will have to pass through her worst fears too. Her unscrupulous cousin, Dr. Jean-Claude Von Metzger has been using the hospital’s patients to secretly test an experimental drug first conceived of by his grandfather in Nazi Germany. Its purpose: To create fearless soldiers.
After discovering that Gordon is being used as a primary test subject, Mandy sets out across Europe to locate a secret research facility where other missing patients are thought to be held. What she uncovers is a soon-to-be enacted neo-nazi agenda designed to usher in a global Fourth Reich. Only she and her steadfast friends stand a chance at saving humanity from the chains of techno-totalitarianism, but the odds are stacked heavily against them.
Steeped in satirical magical realism, and truly hilarious at times, The Isle of Middleworld begins the riveting tales of two young lovers split apart by despicable Nazi scientists. Battling to save each other (and the worlds they live in), they’re forced to go through their worst fears in order to be together again.
Blending the genres of technothriller, epic fantasy, geek culture and satire, Gilliam Ness has created a one-of-a-kind sci-fi series abounding with unforgettable characters, absurd premises, epic plots, and deep world-building. A magnificent adventure awaits you!
“Gordon’s Feast is a must read for anyone with an inner nerd. It’s a hilarious, unforgettable book, and sure to join the ranks of the great epic fantasies.”
